West Ham 0-3 Chelsea: Player ratings as Nicolas Jackson steals show while Alvarez has shocker

By Alessandro Schiavone at London Stadium

West Ham United 0-3 Chelsea

Goals: Nicolas Jackson, Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer (C)

Capital Football has assessed the performance of each West Ham United and Chelsea players as both sides endured contrasting fortunes at London Stadium today. While red-hot Nicolas Jackston stole the show with a double, off-the-pace trio Mexican Edson Alvarez, Kostas Mavropanos and Maximilian Kilman have known better professional days.

West Ham

Areola 6/10

Given that Nicolas Jackson's low effort went through his legs he must feel that he should have done better. Made his first save at the fourth attempt to deny Madueke in the second-half. And it's his world-class save to claw out Christopher Nkunku's point-blank header that West Ham fans take with them as a little consolation in a horror afternoon.

Wan Bissaka 4.5/10

Was too far high up the pitch and then slow to react when Jackson made the run through the channel to set the Blues on their way. Never really gave the impression that he was at it.

Kilman 4/10

Made a pig's ear of defending high up pitch for Chelsea's opening two goals. Too slow when Caicedo slipped the ball into space for Jackson when the visitors doubled their lead . And nowhere near where he should have been for the first goal too. Was yellow-carded for a cynical foul from behind on João Felix when frustrations were running high. Handpicked by Lopetegui, Hammers are yet to see the Wolves version that persuaded the club to part with £40million to bring him to London.

Mavropanos 2/10

A disasterclass. No grit, no personality and passion. Should have got tighter on his man when Chelsea broke quickly for their third. Nowhere near good enough while Jean-Clair Todibo is hot on his heels, ready to pounce.

Emerson 5/10

The Italy international offered little going forward. But to his defence the three goals were not his fault, with two of them coming through the middle and the other from the left flank. Replaced by Cresswell on 73 minutes who did too little to judge one way or another.

Alvarez 0/10

The worst of the bunch. Gave Jackson the freedom to run towards goal after a slick interplay as Chelsea netted their second. Didn't cover himself in glory at all. Replaced by Soler midway through the second period with the Spaniard having a crack from afar. Straight at Sanchez. 4/10

Guido Rodriguez 2/10

Off for Soucek to add some steel after the half-hour mark in a bid to screen the defence but the Czech Republic international didn't do much better as Chelsea kept playing through the lines. Did little to stake a claim for a place in the Hammers' XI.

Kudus 5.5/10

The least bad of his side. Fired a lame effort at Sanchez and had a goal disallowed for offside. But his influence waned as the game wore on.

Paqueta 4.5/10

Sent a free-kick from a promising position straight into the wall. Imprecise in his passing and shots. Not his usual self. Replaced by Andy Irving in the 73rd minute.

Summerville 5/10

Had a penalty appeal turned down when Fofana grabbed him by his arm. Anonymous throughout. Replaced by Michail Antonio on 54 minutes and West Ham's all-time top scorer was dispossessed by a creative player like Felix towards the end. Summed up his aftenoon but the damage was already done before he made his way onto the pitch

Bowen 3/10

Failed to hit the target with the inside of his left boot after a one-two with Paquetà. One of his worst displays for the club. By far.

Chelsea

Robert Sanchez 7/10

Was yet to muddy his shorts when Soucek tested him in the latter stages of period one. But thwarted Bowen with an excellent one-handed save to keep a second consecutive clean sheet.

Cucurella 6/10

An assured performance by the Spaniard. The usual take-no-prisoners grinta. Took Kudus out as West Ham broke quickly after regaining the ball from a corner in the dying minutes. A clever tactical foul. Booked.

Tosin 6/10

A quiet day at the office. Present when called upon but didn't have to get out of first gear. Took his place in the middle of the defence when Fofana was replaced by Disasi. Praised Jadon Sancho in an interview with Capital Football after the game.

Colwill 6/10

Never under duress but impeccable when tested.

Fofana 6/10

Won't have many easier afternoons than this. Solid when called upon, excellent aerial clearances. Made way for Disasi before the hour-mark.

Enzo 6.5/10

Decent first half but Kudus left him in no man's land with a change of pace after the restart. But the only stain of an otherwise excellent afternoon. Did nothing by halves. Made way for Kieran Dewsbury-Hall as he was applauded off the pitch by the ecstatic Chelsea fans six minutes from time.

Caicedo 7/10

His defence-splitting pass for Nicolas Jackson was worthy of winning any football matches.

Didn't give Paquetà and company a sniff. A different player entering a different dimension compared to last season. All he needed was time. Tireless.

Madueke 5/10

Cut inside before firing wide towards the end of the first half. Didn't do much better when he fired at Areola after the restart. Was Wolves a flash in the pan?

Palmer 6/10

A good but not extraordinary job. Dragged his first time effort wide, undoing Jackson's work. But then killed off game with a fine effort in off the post when the Senegalese had another bite at the cherry. Roles reversed.

Felix 5.5/10

Could have had his second goal of his second Chelsea spell but fluffed two chances. Admirable approach and application.

Sancho 6/10

West Ham fans were holding their breath when he was in possession due to his ability to make things happen. Always had a plan in mind with the ball at his blistering feet. His defence-unlocking class could prove the difference between a good or a memorable season for the club. Replaced by Neto on 57 minutes.

8/10 Nicolas Jackson

Two goals, one assist. Is on track to top the all-time Prem tally of early goals. It took him one minute at Wolves and four here to open the scoring. Clinical finish to nutmeg Areola before making a smart run into space from Caicedo's killer pass to double the lead. Four goals in five appearances, that's nothing short of remarkable. Didier Drogba stats. Replaced by Nkunku on 63 minutes. However while at Bournemouth the Frenchman scored from his first touch, here he failed to guide home the simplest of headers from a couple of yards out.
