Player Ratings Arsenal v Man City: Raya does a 'Gordon Banks' and deploys time-wasting tactics while Calafiori lives up to billing
By Alessandro Schiavone at Etihad
Man City 2-2 Arsenal
Goals: Haaland (M), Calafiori (A) Gabriel Magalhaes (A), Stones (M)
Capital Football have assessed the performance of every Arsenal player in their 2-2 draw at Manchester City.
Raya 10/10
Could do nothing to keep out Haaland's opener and John Stones' heartbreaking last-ditch leveller. But brilliantly repelled wave after wave of City attacks, frustrating Walker and Gvardiol twice each. Especially his low reflex-save to deny the Croatian was monumental. Another imperious block from Haaland's header, reminiscent of Gordon Banks famously denying Pele in 1970, earned him Capital Football's top marks. And if we add his fantastic time-wasting skills to it, Raya really reigned supreme in Manchester. Is anyone out there still missing Aaron Ramsdale?
Saliba 8/10
Had a clash of heads with Haaland early on to set the tone. But then left a huge hole between him and Gabriel when Savinho slipped the ball into space for Haaland to latch on to and net. A spirited and combative second-half display followed.
Partey 7/10
His shoulder barge led to Rodri's injury, paving the way for Arsenal to get a route back into the game at a critical time when they were trailing 1-0 and with their backs against the wall. Put his body on the line for the cause and played a key part in Arsenal's heroic defending. Superb.
Gabriel 7/10
Headed over from Saka's corner at the far-post. But his second bite at the cherry was successful as he made amends. Yet was too static when Gundogan took him out with a perfect ball control from Bernardo Silva's laser pass. Luckily for the Brazilian, Gundogan crashed his volley wide. Yet like Saliba his poisitional error led to Haaland's 100th goal for City. Was monumental in the second 45 minutes.
Saka 6/10
Set up Gabriel for Arsenal's opener but uninfluential and marked out of the game otherwise. Was replaced by Ben White at half-time as Arteta needed steel and grit to see through the lead one man down.
Martinelli 8/10
Set up Calafiori for Arsenal's sumptuous opener. Great pullback also for Trossard who put it over. Admirable defensive application and resilience to weather City's storm.
Timber 7/10
Played on the right for a change and came out on top against Doku. Has a nasty streak to his game despite coming from the new Dutch school of nice guys.
Trossard 5/10
Did well to connect with Martinelli's ball by stretching his leg out despite not being his diminutive stature. But failed to to guide the ball towards Ederson's target.
And his afternoon went from bad to worse after being sent off for "delaying the restart" after a foul. Harsh decision.
Havertz 6/10
Offered absolute nothing in attacking terms but helped slow down the game and take the sting out of City when he had the ball. And also kept the defenders busy in the box so as to allow Gabriel to head home at the far end. A decent performance by the ex-Bayer Leverkusen hotshot.
Calafiori 9/10
Scored a belter with his left foot, elegantly arrowing the ball into the top corner first time. Put no foot wrong defensively: alert and stubborn. Came off for Kiwior after a knock on 74 minutes and in his absence... City scored.
Rice 8/10
Pulled his weight as always. Important to patrol midfield and cut off the supply lines.
Jesus 6/10
Did a good job by dispossessing ex-teammate Bernardo Silva close to their own area in the 96th minute. But when will we see a goal from the Brazilian?
