Millwall 0-1 Hull City
Goals: Cooper (Millwall) own-goal 58'
Millwall’s feel-good factor following their 3-0 FA Cup win on Monday was vaporized by a 1-0 home defeat to lowly Hull City at the Den.
An own-goal by Cooper, who deflected Slater's low cross into his own net, seconds before an hour of the game had gone was all that separated the two teams with the Tigers taking three vital points in London in their bid for survival.
Millwall, who were on top of it in terms of possession and chances creation in the first 45 before fading, now have to anxiously look over their shoulder having only a five-point margin on third-from-bottom Luton Town in 22nd.
They created chance after chance yet dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s stood between them and an opening goal.
Mihailo Ivanovic had a header saved after three minutes while Japhet Tanganga’s second bite at the cherry, again from a direct Joe Bryan free-kick, also failed to hit the target.
Hull City’s response was an Abu Kamara effort straight at goalkeeper Lukas Jensen after ageing former Cagliari and Brazil star Joao Pedro had slipped him in.
That was about that and after the Tottenham loanee failed to guide another header on target, Hull City went down the other end a couple of minutes later to score the winning goal.
The boos rang out at the final whistle with the enraged Lions faithful lashing out regularly at boss Alex Neil during the game. This was a game they had to win.
