Malo Gusto EXCLUSIVE: Hat-trick hero Madueke, tactically obsessed boss Maresca, the new Chelsea and his role
By Alessandro Schiavone at Molineux
Capital Football has exclusively spoken to Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto in the wake of the Blues' stunning 6-2 rout against Wolverhampton. Here is what the Frenchman said:
An impressive 6-2 win at Wolves on Sunday must surely be one of the highlights of your Chelsea career: “No, but it’s a very important moment for us. We played a good second-half, it was important to react after a mediocre first period. We had a lot of fun on the pitch and we’re all happy. It’s a good omen for what’s coming.”
On how he feels playing under Enzo Maresca: “Very good, he’s come to the club to install his blueprint. He uses me both on the right and in the middle, it can vary. All I want to do is to adapt and give my all on the pitch. Simple as that.”
His tactical input is there for all to see already: “Yes, there are a lot of tactics, he taught us to play together with a focus on looking for a numerical superiority. That’s what stands out. We have tons of talent but we are now building a team…it’s paramount to play as a unit at weekends.”
At Wolverhampton Chelsea looked irrepressible going forward but defensively you arguably conceded way too much still territory and goal chances still, which a better team or even Wolves on another day may have pounced on: “In the first-half we conceded two stupid goals due to some moments of inattention. We have to eradicate this, the coach picked up on it half-time. Even if we’re young there are moments when we have to stay focussed in our minds so as to avoid shipping goals like that. We have to improve on this and I am sure we will do better going forward.”
Hat-trick hero Madueke was unplayable at Wolves: “I am very happy for him, I’ve always told him that he has the qualities to do things like that. I am always behind him to push him to give his best and I am proud of what he did at Molineux.”
