Neal Maupay's hopes of propelling Olympique Marseille to a first Ligue 1 in 15 years are over after a humbling 3-1 defeat in Paris yesterday night.
The former Brentford man was brought into proceedings in the 84th minute with Roberto de Zerbi's men already trailing by two goals.
Red-hot Ousmane Dembele netted his 29th goal of the campaign before Nuno Mendes bundled home PSG's second from a Fabian Ruiz's square pass.
Amine Gouiri had given Marseille hope six minutes after the restart. But those hopes were killed off when Paul Lirola inadvertently steered Achraf Hakimi's cross into his own net on 76 minutes.
Maupay's side are 19 points adrift of the league leaders from the capital with only eight games to go.
And the ex-Bees superstar has to wait at least one more season to win his first trophy.
Not that Marseille would have had any chances of overtaking Luis Enrique's club anyway, even with a win.
When all is said and done Maupay's two goals in his last 13 outings were hardly cause for optimism for the 1993 Champions League winners to end their bitter rivals' dominance.
