Charlton Athletics down Crystal Palace Palace in all-south London affair: find out where
By Alessandro Schiavone at Selhurst Park
League One side Charlton Athletic got one up on their bitter southeast London rivals Crystal Palace, two divisions higher.
And this time the talk isn't about Jonathan Fortune's 82nd minute equalizer from 2005 that agonizingly sent the Eagles down.
But rather keeper Nick Pope coming out on top in the all ex-south London affair with counterpart Sam Johnstone as Newcastle battled back from one goal down to floor Wolverhampton 2-1 at Molineux.
Pope made two box-office stops either side of Newcastle's unlikely resurgence.
He got down low to block Strand Larsen's flying header, paving the way for Fabian Schär and Harvey Barnes to complete a shock five-minute comeback 600 seconds from the final whistle.
And in the end it was his outrageous 93rd minute save in full stretch from Cunha's acrobatic volley which made the points safe for the Tynesiders.
Johnstone, who was dropped in favour Dean Henderson at Selhurst, was himself a safe pair of hands throughout . With the game only a few minutes old, he spectacularly tipped Jacob Murphy's chip over way off his line.
That enabled Mario Lemina to give the Old Gold the lead when he made the most of Joao Gomes's dummy from Strand Larsen's square pass to tap home. But after also palming away Bruno Guimaraes' long-ranger, Wolves fell flat on their faces with Toon's individual quality and brilliance shining through.
The two clubs might be separated by two divisions and fifteen points, with second-place League One outfit Charlton light years behind the stuttering top-flight Eagles [on four points] in the Premier League.
But as things stand it's not an impossible scenario to imagine both teams from the south of the Thames to face off next term in the league...
