Bowen's penalty punishes wasteful Manchester United and gives Hammers vital 2-1 win

West Ham United 2 (Summerville 74, Bowen 90+2 (pen))

Manchester United 1 (Casemiro 81)

Jarrod Bowen scored a 92nd minute penalty as West Ham punished wasteful Manchester United with a 2-1 victory.

West Ham summer signing Crysensio Summerville had given the home side the lead before Casemiro nodded United level.

But Matthijs de Ligt was adjudged to have tripped Danny Ings as the clock ticked over t 90 minutes - a decision which saw referee David Coote overturn his original decision after a referral from VAR. Ings converted from the spot.

But it could have been such a different story - United missing no fewer than seven excellent chances to take the lead in the first half - including an open goal Diago Dalot somehow passed up.

The first two fell to Alejandro Garnacho. First West Ham lost the ball deep in their defensive half and Bruno Fernandes was able to slip in Garnacho who, with a clear shot at goal and all the time in the world, leant back and curled his shot against the crossbar.

Then set free down the left, Garnacho curled an effort wide of the right-hand post.

Bruno headed over when unmarked and all alone from barely 10 yards following a right-wing cross from Casemiro before Marcus Rashford got his legs tanged up when through on goal.

Lucas Paqueta had West Ham's only chance of the first half, heading over a corner from Carlos Soler.

But then came the unthinkable from United's point of view. Fernandes's good ball from his own half set Dalot free and his first touch took the bouncing ball past Lucasz Fabianski.

Then, with the goal at his Mercy, Dalot somehow managed to shoot wide of the target, drawing howls of derision from the West Ham faithful.

The United chances kept coming. West Ham then managing to hit their own crossbar as Edson Alvarez's head flicking the ball against the woodwork following a corner from the left.

And Casemiro's header from a Christian Eriksen free-kick was superbly saved by Fabianski.

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui responded with a half-time triple substitution. Konstantinos Mavropanos, Paqueta and Soler the fall guys - although the boss could have taken his pick.

And the changes - that of Summerville in particular - made the difference.

Summerville's pace pushed United back - and it was he who was to get the Hammers' first goal, Danny Ings miskicking Jarrod Bowen's cross perfectly into the path of Summerville, who slid the ball into the net.

The lead lasted just seven minutes. A cross from the left was helped back by Dalot, headed forward by Joshua Zirkzee and nodded home by Casemiro.

But there was still time for a dramatic winner - with home favourite Bowen sending the Hammers into huge celebrations at the end.
