Disappointed but far from downcast probably best summed up Ange Postecoglou's mood after his side's 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in Thursday night's opening Euro quarter-final leg.

His side made enough chances to have grabbed an advantage ahead of next week's return fixture, but the football gods, he pointed out, have not been smiling much on Spurs of late.

But if Tottenham failed to edge a tight contest, there is no reason to believe they won't be able to run it close in Germany - even though they won't have the benefit of home support.

In fact, the Spurs boss thinks there is every chance it will go to extra time.

"I think it could be tight next week, and could go into extra time and we are going to need everyone ready to go and I think that'll be important again next week," he said..

"You never know. It may go into extra time and we may need some pretty big efforts from guys. I thought the guys coming on today made a difference, injecting some energy."

Postecoglou continued: "We're a little bit frustrated by the result, obviously but I thought the performance in general was really, really good by the boys.

"We conceded early, which wasn't ideal but I thought our response to that was really good. We stayed in control, scored a good equaliser. Second half we put them under pressure and the boys did everything right, I can't ask for anything more.

"We hit the bar three times and their keeper's pulled off some amazing saves. On another night, we'd have a comfortable victory. We had some fantastic moves in the second half, it's just that we weren't able to capitalise.

"If we perform like that over there, and there's no reason why we can't, I still give us a good chance. At times I felt we totally overwhelmed them with our running, with our press.

"But It's going to be that sort of season. Nothing's going to come to us easy. We're going to have to go over there and fight now to get what I thought we deserved tonight and that's what we'll try to do.

"I'm resigned to the fact the football gods have got their eyes elsewhere. this year. They're obviously busy with other clubs and other managers. Whatever we get, we are going to have to do it without them this year."

Destiny Udogie should be fine for the game, according to Postecoglou, who said the defender went off after cramping up, rather than because of injury. "He was unbelievable today. I thought he was incredible, the amount of running he did."
