Warburton expecting an "angry reaction" at Luton after QPR are downed 3-0 by Sheffield Wed

Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton is expecting an “angry reaction” when the R’s travel to second-bottom Luton Town in the Championship tomorrow night.

Rangers were played off the park by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, going down 3-0 to a far superior side on the day.

And while Warburton said three of his players could come out of Saturday’s game at Loftus Road with some credit, he couldn’t hide his fury afterwards.

He said: “I cannot defend that. We were way below our desired level and we looked like a team of boys against a team of men today.

“That was way below an acceptable performance. We started OK, gave away a soft, stupid free-kick, had a poor reaction, and from that moment on we were treading water. It was totally unacceptable.

“I am not blaming young players but the Championship is demanding level and you have to step up.

“I thought Geoff Cameron, Osman Kakay, Luke Amos, Joe Lumley came out with a lot of credit, but around it there were too many people who didn’t contribute.

“We gave the ball away cheaply, we didn’t win our duals and I don’t think we had a shot in 90 minutes.”

“I’ll defend the team when it is the right thing to do, but today no, that was way below and we have to react on Tuesday against a Luton side who are fighting for their lives.

“If you play like that you have no excuses.”

Rangers remain in 16th position, on 53 points, clear of the drop zone, but Warburton says his players will be keen to bounce back against the Hatters.

He said: “I am expecting an angry reaction on Tuesday. That will really hurt them. I have no doubt about their character but we have to realise at this level we cannot show that level of performance.”
